Fallout 4 Automatron DLC – Good

The Fallout 4 Automatron DLC is a robot themed add-on to the post-apocalyptic wasteland game.

New enemies in the form of raiders known as the Rust Devils join the game as well as new robot enemies created by the DLC’s main antagonist known as The Mechanist. The Rust Devils can attack the player at any time which made for an interesting encounter featuring the player character, Stingwings, Yao Guai, Gunners, Robots, Rust Devils, Mole Rats, Wild Dogs, Dogmeat and Nick Valentine having a sort of free for all with very little to hide behind which was fun.

Ada is a companion that gets added to the game, I didn’t like her much and in her basic state she is weak but you can use the new robot crafting station found in Fallout 4’s construction mode to change her and make her as well as other robots you create more useful.

There were new armour pieces and weapons added in this DLC which is always welcome with new content. New bosses and collectable parts for robots were also added.

The Mechanist sadly wasn’t the same Mechanist that could be found in Fallout 3. This one wasn’t the villain that she seemed to be, instead it was the artificial intelligence of her robots that chose to kill people, not through evil but to help as the best way to help people escape suffering is to make it so that they can no longer suffer. A logic that works but doesn’t really seem fair. There is a new area as The Mechanist’s Lair which has some really interesting door animations (seems silly to get excited about but I was amazed the first time I saw them) and is a decent sized area with a difficult combat section at the end.

The only thing stopping this DLC from being great is that the robot building requires certain perks to work to its fullest which may make an interesting character build but makes it so others without a specific build can’t have full enjoyment of the DLC.

The art that I’m using as the featured image was found on the marketplace section of the Xbox website. It shows a woman and a man destroying an Assaultron robot with Ahab which is a boss from the DLC looking dangerous in the background. The red colour could show both rust and danger. It looks good, a bit like a comic and is fairly impressive.
