Painting: The Fractured Maslow and stuff about the model.

The hierarchy of needs is a fairly important model thought up by Abraham Harold Maslow who was a psychologist made famous by this idea.

The model is about what people are motivated towards achieving with the most important being lowest which then builds up into the top level which is usually done after all the other levels have been achieved.

Top:

  1. Self actualisation – being all you can be
  2. Self esteem – Status, respect, recognition and freedom come into this
  3. Social needs – The desire to connect with other people
  4. Security – A safe place to live, a stable job…
  5. Physiological needs – The basics for survival like food and water

Bottom

This is my painting of the model with a big crack down it, this version is personalised to my lifestyle because the higher levels aren’t being achieved by me.

As an introvert I struggle to get my social needs right like I should; as a temp my job security isn’t brilliant; being in a lifestyle where there’s little input or status isn’t great for esteem (although this looks to be improving) and I don’t care about anything enough for actualisation.

I’m just happy to have food, drink and a roof over my head.

  1. Good luck! Awareness of any problem is the first step in recovery. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Sow a thought and you reap an action. Sow an action and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny.”
