My latest painting wasn’t really thought out at all, I had some spare purple and slapped it on a canvas. I thought it looked like a hand so I started adding other colours around it.
I can see a few different things in this picture and even more when I rotate it and see it from different angles.
I’ve called it ‘Reaching’ because that seems to be the only consistent thought I have about it, the hand is reaching. Is it in a desperate struggle to escape or is it reaching for something? Is there fire or wind or water? Is there something else? A pasting brush?
This is abstract art that’s open to interpretation. Maybe there’s some meaning in it. Any thoughts?
The hand is reaching up out of flame. Perhaps like the newly reborn Phoenix. The blue could be sky and the green looks like a tree.

Rebirth, good one. I hadn’t thought of that.

I love the colors and their relationship to each other. That’s the essence of an excellent painting.

Thanks, sometimes I just start painting and do what seems to fit with no real plan. Have you ever tried that?

No. My art is usually well planned out. I’m not usually happy with the result when I work like you suggest. But I always admire people who can. It’s such a freeing way to work.
