Painting: Reaching

My latest painting wasn’t really thought out at all, I had some spare purple and slapped it on a canvas. I thought it looked like a hand so I started adding other colours around it.

I can see a few different things in this picture and even more when I rotate it and see it from different angles.

I’ve called it ‘Reaching’ because that seems to be the only consistent thought I have about it, the hand is reaching. Is it in a desperate struggle to escape or is it reaching for something? Is there fire or wind or water? Is there something else? A pasting brush?

This is abstract art that’s open to interpretation. Maybe there’s some meaning in it. Any thoughts?

      1. No. My art is usually well planned out. I’m not usually happy with the result when I work like you suggest. But I always admire people who can. It’s such a freeing way to work.
