I’ve been looking for something fun to play recently and Game Pass has allowed me to try a few games out. I beat the campaign of Star Wars Battlefront 2 and had a quick go of the online so now I’ve formed an opinion.

A first person shooter set in the Star Wars universe with a bit more story sounds great.

It was pretty good, the combat can be done in first or third person so it caters to different play styles. The guns feel pretty good in the game with every character having unique abilities it’s not as mindless as some shooters can be. There’s also a few hero and villain characters that bring their own bits of fun to the game (I loved the Lando bit of the campaign). It was some of the most fun I’ve had in a shooter in a while.

The game also has flight combat where x wings go up against tie fighters. I wasn’t a huge fan of this part of the game but it is well made and fit in well in the campaign.

The campaign had a few collectibles on each level so there is a bit of replayability value. If like me you mostly do single player then this is definitely a plus point.

As for the story of the campaign, it made sense enough to follow, it showed a bit of dark side stuff but the light side had to win in the end. It was interesting but a bit short. All about family opposition and how the empire is totally evil. It works for Star Wars and I think it’s canon for the series. However the campaign was short which was disappointing.

The online is like any other. Play it enough and you’ll get good. It’s sort of fun having a big chaotic battle as a stormtrooper then seeing how intense it can get when a Jedi suddenly charges at you with a light sabre. It’s quite fun in its way and offers multiple different game modes. Randomised loot boxes are present in the game but they weren’t invasive to my experience and didn’t effect the single player at all.

The game is glitchy in campaign with dead enemies respawning just to drop dead, jumping corpses and enemies being inside walls plus a few others visual issues.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It’s a fun shooter with a good enough story and a few fan favourite characters in the campaign. If the campaign had been a good length longer I’d recommend this game as a true great. The online is alright too but because the loot boxes are there and the fact that I prefer a focus on single player I can only call this game good.
