The MCU

This post is about my whole MCU experience and I will expand upon it as I go on.

My “I Watched” posts are review style pieces where I state my opinion of movies and TV shows. Below are links to my MCU ones. They start out in Disney’s chronological order but by Part 6 I’ve had to change that slightly. These will be updated in future.

Part 1 – Captain America, Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor.

Part 2 – The Avengers, Thor The Dark World, Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Part 3 – Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2, Avengers Age Of Ultron, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow.

Part 4 – Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Thor Ragnarok, Ant-Man And The Wasp.

Part 5 – Avengers Infinity War, Avengers Endgame.

Part 6 – Spider-Man Homecoming, Spider-Man Far From Home, and some thoughts on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Part 7 – Wandavision, Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye.

I started paying attention to the MCU because it’s gotten so big and I wrote a post saying it was boring because I didn’t like the first few and I’d gone off superhero films. After sitting through all the main movies, I stand by my opinion. In its entirety the MCU is boring. There are too many dots to connect and too many things to be set up or explained which makes it dull, however there are some fantastic movies within the set. The whole is not greater than the sum of its parts because some of the parts are too good.

I started getting into Marvel again by playing the Lego games. Through the Lego games I learned more about the heroes and started to understand things better than the movies present them. I don’t read comics so Lego made these movies better for me. Lego Marvel Avengers.

I don’t like Hulk in the MCU. Banner comes across as whiny and fearful while what I thought should be a savage beast that only gets stronger the more it hurts (Hulk) is surprisingly thoughtful and has a bit too much conscience for my liking. The Banner/Hulk hybrid was just plain weird.

I don’t like how Peter Parker is just a boy in the MCU. He plays off Iron Man well, but as a stand-alone hero he just doesn’t seem like a cool, respectable hero. He’s also way too reliant on technology like the Doc Ock style arms his Iron Spider suit has.

Rocket Raccoon is my favourite still. He has brains, anger, wit, attitude and a lovely relationship with any character he comes across. Yondu was also so fantastic in Guardians 2 that he’s probably the best one with a smaller role.

Black Widow may just be the best character overall (I haven’t seen her movie at time of posting). She’s just as effective in combat as any of the other non-superpowered heroes and goes from being Fury’s lackey/spy to a full on fighter. She has some form of banter with the other Avengers and clearly has their respect on the level of Captain America but with a more interesting moral compass, even leading a version of the Avengers in the later movies.

After watching Eternals I saw it like a Justice League movie with Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern all trying to stop Apokolips being created. It was too close to DC to not make the comparison. Jokes aside, I would have liked more from Thena and Gilgamesh rather than the little time we got.

Disney did a good job in lining them up in order to be watched. They also made it so you could skip to the post credit scenes at the end of each movie.

The choices of music are also well done.
